CDC Summer Performing Arts Intensive (Virtual)

Welcome!

Summer 2020 is Conima's Dance Culture's first summer performing arts intensive. Our performing arts training intensive involves a month-long series of various performing arts classes such as Acting, improv, dance in Hip Hop, Praise/Spiritual, Jazz/Ballet, and Singing/Voice. We are offering two 4-week sessions of for this summer (June & July). The goal of our workshops is to provide art's training to youth and adults of all ages in fundamental skills and techniques in a variety of performing arts disciplines. These skills that you will develop through this training series may be utilized to build your skills as an artist for future performances, auditions, to learn something new, and for fun! 

Summer Training Mission/Vision/Goals

Mission:

To Educate, inspire, and instill fundamental performing arts skills and expertise for youth of all ages.  

Vision:

For youth to learn and apply performing arts techniques to future performances and/or their personal lives.

Goals:

For students to learn, embody, and perform a variety of dance, acting, and singing techniques.

For students build young artist self-confidence as a performer and artist. 

To inspire youth to continue their involvement in the arts.

For youth to learn how their gifts and talents can be used to serve God and others!

About The Classes

This summer we are offering six classes throughout the summer. In summer session 1 we are offering Motivational Hip Hop, Acting, Praise/Spiritual Dance, and Singing/Voice. In session 2 we will teach all classes except Singing/Voice and will replace that class with Improv Theatre.

 

Students That are enrolled in one or both sessions are eligible to take one or all classes offered every week. Although students have the option to self select their courses each week, we strongly encourage students to take all the classes every week to receive the full benefits of the program. 

Brief information about each class is listed below!

Motivational Hip Hop
Hip Hop Class

Youth participants will learn fundamental choreography and technique. Each class students will learn a short choreography sequence to build their experience in learning and performing choreography. Motivational hip hop classes includes urban influence songs with a good message!

Acting

Youth participants will learn fundamental acting technique such as voice, diction, and characterization. Each class, students will learn and try out a variety of tactics used by actors/performers to create believable characters on stage! 

Praise/Spiritual

Youth participants will learn how to dance and perform praise/spiritual dance. There are a verity of praise dance styles. Students will learn how to interpret lyrics in spiritual songs to worship God and practice that through dance choreography.

Singing/Voice

Youth participants will learn fundamental techniques in using the voice and pitch to sing a variety of songs. Throughout the workshop, you will also learn how to use their voice to serve God with music. 

Ballet/Jazz

Youth participants will learn fundamental choreography and technique in Ballet and Jazz. Students will also learn short choreography sequences to build their experience in learning and performing choreography. 

Improv

Youth participants will learn fundamental skills of performing or acting without a script. Improvisational acting involves performing without rehearsal. Students will learn by playing a variety of games and creating short story-telling on-the-spot!

Courtney Manning

Motivational Hip Hop & Improv Instructor

Courtney Manning is a dancer, actress performer and choreographer from Houston, TX. She has a BA & BSE in Theatre and Education from Texas Christian University, and persuing her MFA in Drama and Theatre for Youth and Communities (DTYC) from University of Texas at Austin. She has experience in writing, planning, and creating choreography that focuses on faith, purpose, and inspiration.

Tateanna Washington

Praise/SpiritualDance Instructor

Tateanna Washington is and dancer and performer from New Orleans, LA. She has 12+ years of experience in dancing, performing and choreographing inspirational and praise dances in a variety of churches and youth groups. She values using dance as a form a worship and praise to God. Through her classes students will learn about how to listen to the songs and interpret the lyrics through dance.

Megan Grace

Singing/VoiceInstructor

Megan is from Fort Worth, TX. She has a BA in Theatre form Texas Christian University. She has experience in singing and performing for her church and in studio. She also has experience in directing, education, and teaching.

Latoinette Wright

Ballet, Jazz​, & Acting Instructor

Latoinette Wright is from Arlington, TX. She has a BS in Strategic Communication from Texas Christian University. She has 8+ years of experience in dance training and performance, including ballet, jazz, and hip hop. She also has experience in acting, singing, and teaching.

Tuition Cost

In light of the current circumstances with COVID-19 we are offering our summer classes for free.

If you would like to make a contribution to the program, you are welcome to make a donation of any amount.
